Tillandsia ionantha bravo
Family
Bromeliaceae
Origin
Central America and Mexico
Description
A stunning form of ionantha, producing dark green thick succulent leaves. Tillandsia ionantha bravo is one of the most attractive of the smaller species. Most of the year it is green, but it will turn a bright pink when it blooms in order to attract hummingbirds to pollinate it. This plant has narrow, tubular flowers which rise from the foliage and are a deep purple. This plant produces multiple offsets over time to become a large cluster.
Environment
It likes warmer, humid conditions but will do just fine in a dryer environment with regular misting. Do not allow water to collect in the leaf bases as this will cause the plants to rot. Soak the plant for around 30 min in water every week .
Good ventilation is a must. Feed with dilute liquid fertilizer fortnightly.
Landscape Uses
Ornamental plants which are great for attracting birds.
