Description

Exotic hibiscus are large, wildly colored and are also called fancy hibiscus. Their bushes usually don't grow as big or as vigorously as garden variety hibiscus, but the flowers are much more spectacular. Exotic hibiscus are all tropical hybrids. Producing such large multi-colored flowers requires good nutrition and some tender loving care, but there is nothing more rewarding than the beautiful blooms these exotic hibiscus produce.

Environment

Hibiscus is heat tolerant and prefers neutral to acidic, well-drained soil and full sun.

Being a fast growing plant, hibiscus prefer well drained rich soil and regular watering. Thoroughly water to moisten the entire root-ball each time you water. Allow the soil to become slightly dry between watering approximately to a depth of between 1/2" deep for small containers to 1" deep for large containers. Never keep the soil soggy. Avoid using a saucer or empty any excess water from it 30-40 minutes after watering.

Landscape Use

Ideal for container plant or mixed border. Hibuscus plants are almost constantly visited by a variety of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Hibiscus plants love warm and humid conditions. Give the plant at least 6 hours of sunlight to see the lovely tropical blooms on it. They like to be a little root bound in a container, hence choose a container with only a little bit of room.

Hibiscus in blooming stage needs daily watering. Make sure your pot contains a drainage hole in it. In winters, cut down on the watering as too much water can kill it too. Only water it in winter when the soil gets dry.

Fertilise it in summers during the blooming period, once a week or once in 2 week.
