Description

String of Beads plant looks just as it sounds, with round, succulent leaves carried down long, slender stems. Pot your String of Beads succulent plant in a hanging basket to show off its trailing strands of bead-like leaves.

Despite its delicate appearance, this unusual succulent house plant is a vigorous grower, quickly creeping across the surface of the pot, then cascading down the side.

Its trailing stems can reach 2-3 ft (60-90 cm). If long stems become straggly, you can cut them off. Poke healthy stem tip cuttings back into the soil to create a full, lush plant.

Care

Water thoroughly, then allow to dry out slightly between watering. This plant will not tolerate soggy soil. Cut back on water in winter, watering just enough to prevent the soil from drying out. Feed once a month spring through fall with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half.

Landscape Use

Suitable for Container, Rock Garden & Xeriscaping

Danger

All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested

Most succulents need to be watered twice a week during summers and only once in monsoon & winters. Varieties like Haworthias, Crassulas and Gasterias are well suited for low-light indoors and window-sills. If the leaves get too bulky, it is a sign of overwatering & if the leaves look shrivelled it is a sign of less watering.

As a general rule of thumb, all the ones with colourful leaves like Echeverias, Sedeveria and Graptopetalum like bright sunlight and semi shade in extreme summers. They cannot be kept indoors or in full shade. All succulents love morning sun.

You can fertilise your succulent once a month.

Watering tips : Make sure NOT to water on the plant itself. Water directly in the soil. You can use a cup or a glass to make sure the water does not spray on leaves. When watering, make sure water comes out of the drainage hole.
