Description
Dancing lady is a dainty shade loving dwarf ginger which grows 1 to 2 feet tall with pretty glossy green foliage.
The inflorescence is a raceme that hangs downwards. Magenta, ovate bracts overlap one another and partially cover the floral stalk. Each flower is borne on a long purple stalk that is held perpendicular to the main axis of the inflorescence. Small, yellow flowers (2 - 3 cm long) are tubular with a single, elongated and arched stamen. The blooming period lasts for about a month.
The unusual flowers are ideal for floral arrangements, because they remain fresh for about 2 weeks after being cut..
Environment
They grow well in shaded areas and seem to do well in pots and containers on shaded patios, conservatories and indoors. They grow well in fertile well drained soil.
To ensure the plant flowers each year you need to to make sure that you cut off the dead leaves at the end of each season.
Keep the rhizomes dry during the winter and feed with organic fertiliser in spring as new leaves appear.
Landscape Use
It is suitable as an ornamental plant in shaded area
