Astrophytum myriostigma cv. Onzuka quadricostatum
Family
Cactaceae
Native
North America
Description
Astrophytum Onzuka is probably the most beautiful, sought after and attractive of all the myriostigma cultivars. It has snowy-white, heavily speckled epidermis with fabulous markings much like the ‘kabuto’ asterias. The white marking varies considerably from plant to plant and there exist an enormous number of different designs, and also plants change their appearance in age and they are full of surprises as they grows
Stem is spherical to short cylindrical, up to 8-10 cm in diameter, epidermis dark green, almost naked or covered with with very few white hair-tufts.
Flowers are very showy, up to 5 cm wide (or more), pale-yellow, shining-silk, unlike the 5-ribbed plant.
Environment
Like most cacti they're drought tolerant and need very little care and attention to grow well. Not enough sunlight and over-watering are common mistakes.
Plenty of sunshine will keep this cacti more than happy. In a glass room you may have to provide some shade during a hot summers day to prevent sunburn
Feed every 4 weeks with a Nitrogen-poor and Potassium & Phosphorus-rich fertilizer during summer
Landscape Uses
It is an excellent plant for garden rockery settings, desert type landscapes, patios and botanical gardens
