Description
Echinopsis chamaecereus or Chamacereus Firechip is a branched cactus, up to 6 inches (10 cm) tall, with many crowded finger-like stems. The pale green stems are up to 6 inches (15 cm) long and up to 0.5 inches (1.2 cm) in diameter. Blooms in late spring and produces several flushes of about 2 inches (5 cm) wide orange-red flowers.
Environment
Peanut cactus tolerates extremely bright sun but enjoys filtered sunlight or afternoon shade. The Cactus can be placed outdoors in April, but protected from rain and direct sunlight. The plant tends to bronze in strong light, which encourages flowering and heavy spine production, but is likely to suffer from sun scorch or stunted growth if over exposed to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day in summer.
They prefer a drying period between watering, even to the point where they slightly wilt. When you water, however, you should water deeply. The plant will noticeably plump up. It s imperative that the cactus is not exposed to prolonged dampness and sitting water. Never let your cactus sit in a dish of water. Lastly, make sure to fertilizer during the growing season for the best results.
