Description
Bougainvillea Pixie Queen ins a compact, dense, upright shrub that produces bright pink clusters of bracts. Leaves are mottled with cream edges and light green inner petals which contrast well with the flowers.
The bloom of Pink Pixie comes from small bright-pink bracts amid densely packed yellow green leaves. Bracts are modified leaves evolved to lure pollinators to the nearly insignificant true flowers nestled among them. These small, white tubular blooms are pollinated by hummingbirds
Not only is Pink Pixie a better candidate for small, sun-drenched gardens than most bougainvilleas, it s a popular bonsai and topiary specimen too. This is a dwarf form of the variety Torch Glow,
Environment
Bougainvillea grow in fertile, well drained soil in full light. The plant profusely flower if grown under maximum light and stressed with dryness. Bring the soil to a state of visual dryness between watering. The best flowering occurs when the plants are brought to a slight wilt between waterings. When watering, thoroughly saturate the soil until a little water runs out of the bottom of the pot. Growing in a clay pot will help maintain a healthy root system.
Fertilize with a balanced, soluble fertilizer every two weeks at tsp of fertilizer per gallon of water. Reduce the frequency during the winter months, especially under cool temperatures.
Landscape Use
This dwarf is the best bougainvillea for containers, patios, nooks and any sunny small space.
