Environment

Tree anemone grows best in full sun during the cooler months and when grown in coastal areas. When grown inland or during the summer, provide this succulent with afternoon or partial shade. Avoid placing tree anemones in sites with western sun exposures..

Aeoniums do not like really hot or dry weather. They may go dormant in summer and do not require any water, except in very dry conditions. In extreme heat, their leaves will curl, to prevent excessive water loss. Growing them in moist shade will keep them growing, but their true growth season is winter to spring, when temperatures are cool and damp. In the winter, water whenever the soil has dried out.

Description

Aeonium arboreum is a tree-like succulent which forms branched stems up to 3 feet (90 cm) tall. The leaves are up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) long and spoon-shaped and shiny green. Aeonium arboretum or Tree anemones have waxy foliage that forms rosettes. These plants grow quickly and produce small, star-like, yellow flowers on racemes from late winter through early spring. Flowers stems emerge from the center of the rosettes. The rosette die after flowering. These visually striking succulents grow in a range of shapes, sizes and colors.

Landscape Use

Suitable for Container, Rock Garden & Xeriscaping

Most succulents need to be watered twice a week during summers and only once in monsoon & winters. Varieties like Haworthias, Crassulas and Gasterias are well suited for low-light indoors and window-sills. If the leaves get too bulky, it is a sign of overwatering & if the leaves look shrivelled it is a sign of less watering.

As a general rule of thumb, all the ones with colourful leaves like Echeverias, Sedeveria and Graptopetalum like bright sunlight and semi shade in extreme summers. They cannot be kept indoors or in full shade. All succulents love morning sun.

You can fertilise your succulent once a month.

Watering tips : Make sure NOT to water on the plant itself. Water directly in the soil. You can use a cup or a glass to make sure the water does not spray on leaves. When watering, make sure water comes out of the drainage hole.
