Albuca Humilis
Family
Asparagaceae
Origin
South Africa
Description
Albuca humilis is a relative of the renowned 'Frizzle Sizzle' plant, boasting straight, sturdy leaves. Its abundant white flowers, adorned with green stripes, add a touch of elegance.
With regular offsetting, this bulb can produce a large cluster of blooms over time. As a winter-growing plant, it will lose its leaves after a summer bloom but will regrow anew in the fall. While the flower stalks are developing, the leaf tips may turn brown, but this is perfectly natural and new leaves will emerge soon.
Environment
Albuca Humilis thrives in full sunlight, but can also flourish in partial sun or with a grow light. Although not frost-hardy, this plant can withstand dry and cold conditions, resulting in tightly curled leaves.
For optimal growth, use a well-drained soil mixture of sand and loam. Plant the bulb in a pot with drainage holes, leaving half of the bulb exposed above the soil with the sprout pointing up.
When watering, be sure to consistently water it until established, then switch to lighter watering. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to bulb rot.
Fertilize annually with an all-purpose fertilizer in early spring. During its growing season, Albuca Humilis will benefit from regular feedings. It also needs a cooling period in order to produce healthy foliage and flowers.
