Nananthus schooneesii Living Stone Succulent
Aloinopsis schooneesii is a compact succulent belonging to the Aizoaceae family and is native to the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, where it grows on silty flats between Willowmore and Steytlerville.
This tuberous succulent forms dense mats of small clustered rosettes with plump dark blue-green leaves featuring a fine texture and distinctive triangular tips. The leaves typically grow up to 1.3 cm long, creating an attractive compact display that becomes more impressive with age.
Flower Colour & Blooming
Bright yellowish-bronze daisy-like flowers with darker centre lines appear from September to December under Indian growing conditions. The blooms open during daylight hours, usually in the morning, and reach up to 2 cm in diameter, creating a striking contrast against the compact foliage.
Growing Conditions
Aloinopsis schooneesii thrives in bright light and benefits from several hours of direct sunlight for optimal growth and flowering. Use a highly porous, well-drained succulent mix to prevent excess moisture around the roots.
This species is primarily a winter grower and may slow down during the hottest summer months. Reduce watering during dormancy and allow the growing medium to dry between waterings. Feed once during the active growing season with a balanced fertilizer.
Display & Uses
Its miniature size makes it ideal for succulent collections, windowsill gardens, dish gardens, ventilated terrariums, rock gardens and xeriscaping displays. It is especially suited to decorative pots where its textured foliage and seasonal blooms can be appreciated up close.
