Product Description

Canna Lily Coccinea Red is a vigorous tropical variety producing striking clusters of vivid red flowers above broad green foliage. Its tall, upright growth makes it ideal for sunny borders, garden beds, large containers, and tropical-style landscapes

Vivid Red Blooms Rising Above Lush Green Foliage

Canna Lily Coccinea Red is a striking tropical perennial from the Cannaceae family, known for its tall upright growth, broad green leaves, and vivid red flowers. The foliage forms a lush backdrop for the brightly coloured blooms, while the strong flowering stems give the plant an impressive vertical presence. This vigorous rhizomatous Canna is well suited to warm climates and works particularly well where a bold flowering accent is desired.

Canna Coccinea Red produces prominent clusters of bright crimson-red flowers that stand clearly above the green foliage, creating a dramatic display during the warmer months. Its tall growth makes it especially effective when planted towards the back of borders or in groups where the flowering stems can rise above surrounding plants. Flowering extends from June to October in the plains and from July to November in hilly regions. Plant the rhizomes between February and April in the plains or March and May in hilly regions for strong seasonal growth and flowering.

Environment

Sunlight: Grow in full sun for vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Choose an open position with good light and protection from strong winds, as the large leaves can be damaged by harsh conditions.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth and flowering. Water thoroughly when needed, while allowing excess moisture to drain freely around the rhizomes.

Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-decomposed organic matter. A nutrient-rich growing medium encourages healthy foliage and strong flowering stems.

Fertilizer: Apply a slow-release fertilizer at planting and feed periodically during the growing season. Regular nourishment supports vigorous growth and helps maintain flowering.

Landscape Uses

  • Ideal as a tall flowering accent in garden borders and beds.
  • Creates a bold red floral display when planted in groups.
  • Well suited to large containers and spacious sunny patios.
  • Adds height and tropical character to mixed landscape plantings.
  • Works well alongside green foliage plants, ornamental grasses, and other summer-flowering varieties.

Flowering plants need access to bright sunlight to remain healthy and blooming. An easy facing balcony is the best place for the plants in Indian conditions. Try keeping them in bright sunlight but also where they get a little cover from the harsh afternoon sun. Some plants which are a little tender tend to burn due to the same.

Plants with thin leaves need daily watering and ones with thick leaves need watering 3-4 times a week. This will also depend on the season. Generally during the blooming period, plants love a lot of water. Try keeping the soil moist. During winters it is better to cut back on watering.

Keep the plants in a well drained soil with a drainage hole at the bottom. This will help to avoid over watering. Take care as to not leave stagnant water on top of the soil. Fertilise the plant once in 2-3 weeks during its blooming period. Do not fertilise it in winters.
