Vibrant Coral-Crested Blooms for Bright Summer Garden Displays

Celosia cristata 'Crist Coral Mix', commonly known as Cockscomb Celosia, is a colourful warm-season flowering annual from the Amaranthaceae family. This attractive variety is admired for its unique coral-like crested flower heads, compact growth and long-lasting blooms. Its vibrant colours make it an excellent choice for adding bold texture and seasonal colour to gardens and containers.

Crist Coral Mix produces a striking blend of colourful, velvety crested blooms in a range of vibrant shades above lush green foliage. The dwarf, bushy plants are well suited to flower beds, borders, edging and decorative pots, where their unusual flower form creates an eye-catching display throughout the flowering season.

In most parts of India, Crist Coral Mix flowers abundantly from summer through autumn. Its good tolerance to heat and bright sunshine makes it a dependable choice for colourful landscapes, balcony gardens and outdoor containers during the warmer months.

  • Maintain a temperature of 22–28°C for optimum germination.
  • Keep the growing medium consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Provide bright sunlight after germination to encourage sturdy, compact seedlings.
  • Transplant seedlings after they develop 2–3 true leaves.

Landscape Uses

Celosia cristata Crist Coral Mix is ideal for flower beds, borders, edging, patio containers, balcony planters and mass landscape plantings. Its distinctive coral-like flower heads and vibrant mixed colours also make it an excellent choice for seasonal garden displays.

Make sure your seedling tray or pot (whichever you choose) has a drainage hole in it. If you choose a pot, a 5€ pot should be fine. You can either use well drained soil or make a combination of 1 part each of cocopeat, vermiculite and perlite.

While sowing seeds make sure the soil is damp and not wet. Water the seeds as the soil starts to dry. It should always be moist, but never wet or muddy. Do not water the seeds if the soil is already moist to the touch, as overwatering your plant can be just as harmful as underwatering.

Keep the seedling tray in bright filtered light to begin with. Slowly introduce the plant to morning sun and bring it back in before the afternoon sun sets in. In a weeks time you can put it in direct sunlight.
