Description

Crocosmia ‘Crocosmiiflora’ is a vibrant perennial bulbous plant renowned for its elegant arching clusters of vivid flowers. It features upright, sword-shaped green leaves from which tall stems emerge, showcasing brilliant star-shaped blooms in shades of bright orange to reddish-orange with yellow highlights. Ideal for borders, floral arrangements, and mass displays, it provides a bold burst of color during the Indian summer.

Flowering occurs from July to September in the plains and June to August in the hills. For optimal flowering, plant bulbs between February and March in the plains, and March to April in the hills.

Environment

Crocosmia are easily grown in moderately fertile, humus-rich soil that is moist but well-drained. They thrive in full sun or partial shade where they will multiply rapidly and readily. Crocosmia are also drought tolerant (once established), salt tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant. They should be planted in clumps of 12 or more. Crocosmia may be grown in containers - make sure you select a large pot with drainage holes.

Landscape Use

Crocosmia make excellent border plants, providing color and contrast to the perennial border.

Properly preparing the soil for bulb planting is essential! Good soil drainage is essential for planting bulbs. If your soil has a lot of clay content, consider adding a bit of coco peat. Consider your sunlight requirements based not he type of bulb you have chosen to go with. Some plants might be happy in a semi shade environment under a tree whereas someone might require full sunlight.

The general rule of thumb for planting spring bulbs is to plant two to three times as deep as the bulbs is tall. This means most large bulbs like tulips or daffodils will be planted about 8 inches deep while smaller bulbs will be planted 3-4 inches deep. Planting depth is measured from the bottom of the bulb.
