Description

Ficus Elastica 'Belize' or 'Red Ruby' is a greatly eye-catching house plant which has most unusual new growth. The new foliage emerges with a vibrant pinky red tone which adds impact to the variations of cream and green. As the foliage ages the colours mellow to a variegated leaf which is attractive in its own right.

Ficus elastica 'Belize' grows upright, well-branched and can reach an average height of 0.6 m - 1.8 m and a spread of 0.6 m - 1 m breit.

Environment

Ficus plant needs a moderate amount of light but not in full sun with moderate watering. For indoor plants, care should be taken not to over water, otherwise leaf drop and possibly root rot will occur. Allow the soil to dry between watering. Light levels, watering and humidity should be kept as constant as possible to avoid leaf drop. Make sure you provide for high humidity level for your plants, spray them regularly using softened water in hot weather

Feed all Ficus houseplants when they are actively growing with a well balanced plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. Never feed a Ficus Tree in the winter.

Avoid placing a Belize Ficus Tree near an air conditioner, heater, or any cold drafts from windows and doors.

Landscape Uses

It is an excellent plant for garden rockery settings, desert type landscapes, patios and botanical gardens

This is a plant that removes toxins from the environment.

An area with bright indirect sunlight is the best place to keep a Ficus plant. They do not like constant changes in temperature hence do not like to be moved around too much.

Use a well draining soil to pot the ficus. You can alternatively also use a combination of coco peat, perlite and compost. Over watering is as detrimental as under watering for ficus. Make sure you pour just enough water into the pot to seep through the drainage holes. Best way to measure it are the leaves. If the leaves fold easily, you make have over watered it. If the leaves are crinkly you may have under watered it.
