'Assam Orange' is a clump-forming perennial with stems to 5m in height, and glossy, lance-shaped, mid-green leaves 30-40cm in length. In late summer produces fragrant, deep orange flowers in very dense, bottlebrush spikes 20cm long.

The flowers of butterfly ginger lily attract hummingbirds and other pollinators and also make beautiful cut flowers.

Environment

Most Gingers need 2-4 hours of cool direct sunlight , i.e., early morning sunlight or filtered shade throughout the day. Gingers are fairly drought resistant once well-established but often have the best foliage and flower best under average moist to moist conditions with acidic or mildly acidic and fertile soils. When the flowers are all spent, cut off the stem to allow the plant s energy to direct towards the rhizomes. Keep the foliage well tended until it dies back, as it will keep collecting solar energy to store for the next season s bloom.

White Garland Lily grows well in cooler climates.

Landscape Use

Butterfly ginger plants can be grown in containers and brought indoors for the cool seasons. Ideal for Border, Container, Ground cover, Massing

Properly preparing the soil for bulb planting is essential! Good soil drainage is essential for planting bulbs. If your soil has a lot of clay content, consider adding a bit of coco peat. Consider your sunlight requirements based not he type of bulb you have chosen to go with. Some plants might be happy in a semi shade environment under a tree whereas someone might require full sunlight.

The general rule of thumb for planting spring bulbs is to plant two to three times as deep as the bulbs is tall. This means most large bulbs like tulips or daffodils will be planted about 8 inches deep while smaller bulbs will be planted 3-4 inches deep. Planting depth is measured from the bottom of the bulb.
