Cottonseed Meal
Description
Cotton Seed meal is Nitrogen rich fertilizer with typical NPK ratio at 3-1-1. Cottonseed meal can be used when you want to lower the pH of the soil, as this product tends to acidify soil to some extent. This is a good source of slow release Nitrogen and will not burn the plant roots. Good source of food for soil bacteria, Earth worms, etc. Cottonseed meal can be combined with other fertilizers to make a custom mix.
Cotton seed meal presents a good food source for soil microbiology and has positive impact on it.
Cottonseed meal is also a soil amendment and works positively towards increasing the water retention capacity of soil. Cotton seed meal is conductive for acid loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, leading to spectacular flowering. Turf grasses, shrubs, vegetables and rose, lemon, blue berries etc. also benefit from the use of cottonseed meal feed.
Dosage
One cup (approx. 25-30 gms) every 12 inches of pot diameter, three times a year. If the plant is larger, quantity can be increased (suggested increment in quantity is 1/2 cup for every 1 foot increase in diameter of pot or height of the plant). Dosage of the fertilizer can be increased depending upon the plants requirement, soil condition and climate.
Application
Dig a trench around 2-3 inches deep all around the plant leaving 3 inches from the plant trunk. Uniformly spread the fertilizer ( it is recommended to start with 30 grams of the fertilizer) in the trench and then cover the trench with soil. Water the plant till some water comes out from the bottom of pot. refer following pictures for clarity.
Cottonseed Meal can be used to make fertilizer tea which can then be used to irrigate the plants and also provide nutrition. It can also be used in a direct application to soil, in this form it is beneficial for Soil dwelling organisms and thus creates and living soil.
