Product Description

Compact, easy to grow, and ideal for pots, borders, and garden beds, it flowers profusely after rainfall, adding vibrant seasonal colour with minimal care.

Brilliant Crimson-Red Blooms with a Radiant Golden Centre

Rain Lily 'Red Arrow' is a striking flowering bulb belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family and native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. This elegant Zephyranthes variety is prized for its compact clump-forming habit, graceful grass-like foliage, and prolific flowering after rainfall. Its excellent adaptability, low-maintenance nature, and repeat blooming make it a rewarding choice for gardens, balconies, and container displays.

Red Arrow produces elegant star-shaped flowers in a rich crimson-red shade, beautifully highlighted by a glowing golden-yellow throat and delicate white streaks radiating from the centre of each petal. The vivid colour combination creates a dramatic display that stands out against the lush green foliage. Reaching a height of approximately 15–25 cm with a spread of 10–15 cm, this charming variety flowers profusely during the monsoon and post-monsoon season, often bursting into bloom within days of rainfall. Whether planted in borders, rock gardens, or decorative pots, Red Arrow adds vibrant seasonal colour with minimal care.

Environment

Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. At least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily encourages vigorous growth and abundant flowering.

Watering: Water moderately during active growth, allowing the soil to drain well between watering. Reduce watering once the foliage begins to die back.

Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid waterlogged conditions to keep bulbs healthy.

Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced flowering fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to encourage vigorous growth and repeat blooming.

Landscape Uses

  • Excellent for colourful borders, edging, and flower beds.
  • Ideal for balcony planters, patio containers, and window boxes.
  • Perfect for rock gardens and naturalised landscapes.
  • Creates stunning mass displays when planted in groups.
  • A beautiful low-maintenance flowering bulb that adds vibrant colour after monsoon showers.

Zephyranthes will grow well in full sun to full shade, and do quite well in containers. Some dappled shade or afternoon shade is usually tolerated, especially in hot climates.
Rain lilies thrive in average to rich garden soil. The bulbs exhibit tolerance to a wide range of drainage situations, both boggy and sandy conditions.
While rain lilies can survive periods of drought, flowers will not appear until a summer soaking triggers the blooms. Daily irrigating & sprinkling the bulbs thoroughly will also prompt flowering.
Rain lilies are best suited for warm, humid environments. They do not need to be fertilized, but little spread of compost over the ground before they emerge in the spring can give more bloom.
Rain lilies grow well in pots. The tops of the bulbs should be covered by an inch of soil. Although generally planted 2–4 inches apart when in the ground, when grown in containers, rain lily bulbs can be placed closer together, as they prefer being crowded.
