Rich Magenta Blooms with Elegant White Highlights
Rain Lily 'Takamine' is an eye-catching Zephyranthes cultivar from the Amaryllidaceae family, valued for its graceful star-shaped flowers and dependable flowering habit during the rainy season. Native to the tropical regions of the Americas, this compact bulbous perennial forms neat clumps of slender green foliage, making it a delightful addition to both small and large garden spaces.
Each bloom showcases deep magenta petals beautifully accented with soft white streaks that radiate from a fresh green throat, while prominent golden-yellow stamens add a striking contrast at the centre. The vibrant flowers rise elegantly above the foliage, creating a colourful display that appears soon after seasonal showers. Growing to about 15–25 cm in height with a spread of 10–15 cm, Takamine performs equally well in containers, garden borders, and landscape plantings, rewarding gardeners with repeated flushes of blooms throughout the monsoon and post-monsoon months.
Environment
Sunlight: Performs best in full sun, though it also flowers well in locations receiving partial sunlight for part of the day.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant is actively growing, ensuring excess water drains away freely. Reduce watering after flowering as the foliage naturally enters dormancy.
Soil: Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter for healthy bulb development.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced flowering fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to promote vigorous growth and prolific blooming.
