Product Description

Rain Lily 'Takamine' is a beautiful monsoon-flowering bulb featuring rich magenta, star-shaped blooms with elegant white highlights and bright golden stamens. Compact, easy to grow, and perfect for pots, borders, and garden beds, it flowers repeatedly after seasonal rains, adding vibrant colour to outdoor spaces.

Rich Magenta Blooms with Elegant White Highlights

Rain Lily 'Takamine' is an eye-catching Zephyranthes cultivar from the Amaryllidaceae family, valued for its graceful star-shaped flowers and dependable flowering habit during the rainy season. Native to the tropical regions of the Americas, this compact bulbous perennial forms neat clumps of slender green foliage, making it a delightful addition to both small and large garden spaces.

Each bloom showcases deep magenta petals beautifully accented with soft white streaks that radiate from a fresh green throat, while prominent golden-yellow stamens add a striking contrast at the centre. The vibrant flowers rise elegantly above the foliage, creating a colourful display that appears soon after seasonal showers. Growing to about 15–25 cm in height with a spread of 10–15 cm, Takamine performs equally well in containers, garden borders, and landscape plantings, rewarding gardeners with repeated flushes of blooms throughout the monsoon and post-monsoon months.

Environment

Sunlight: Performs best in full sun, though it also flowers well in locations receiving partial sunlight for part of the day.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant is actively growing, ensuring excess water drains away freely. Reduce watering after flowering as the foliage naturally enters dormancy.

Soil: Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter for healthy bulb development.

Fertilizer: Apply a balanced flowering fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to promote vigorous growth and prolific blooming.

Landscape Uses

  • Creates colourful accents along pathways, borders, and garden edges.
  • Excellent for balcony planters, terrace containers, and patio displays.
  • Blends beautifully with other seasonal flowering bulbs in mixed plantings.
  • Ideal for naturalising beneath shrubs or in open landscape beds.
  • A rewarding, low-maintenance rain lily that provides vibrant seasonal colour after every spell of rain.

Zephyranthes will grow well in full sun to full shade, and do quite well in containers. Some dappled shade or afternoon shade is usually tolerated, especially in hot climates.
Rain lilies thrive in average to rich garden soil. The bulbs exhibit tolerance to a wide range of drainage situations, both boggy and sandy conditions.
While rain lilies can survive periods of drought, flowers will not appear until a summer soaking triggers the blooms. Daily irrigating & sprinkling the bulbs thoroughly will also prompt flowering.
Rain lilies are best suited for warm, humid environments. They do not need to be fertilized, but little spread of compost over the ground before they emerge in the spring can give more bloom.
Rain lilies grow well in pots. The tops of the bulbs should be covered by an inch of soil. Although generally planted 2–4 inches apart when in the ground, when grown in containers, rain lily bulbs can be placed closer together, as they prefer being crowded.
