Product Description

Schefflera arboricola 'Janine' is a compact dwarf umbrella plant with glossy lime-green leaves beautifully mottled in creamy white and yellow. Its attractive variegated foliage and compact habit make it ideal for balconies, indoor spaces and bonsai culture.

Variegated Foliage with Creamy White & Yellow Markings

Schefflera arboricola 'Janine', commonly known as the Dwarf Umbrella Plant, is an attractive evergreen foliage plant prized for its compact growth and beautifully variegated leaves. Its small, palmate leaves feature fresh lime-green colouring with irregular creamy white to yellow markings, creating a bright and distinctive appearance.

The leaves are glossy, leathery, and divided into five to seven finger-like lobes, with their midribs radiating from a central point. Flexible green petioles hold the foliage along the stems, giving the plant a neat and graceful appearance. Its naturally dwarf habit also makes Janine an interesting choice for bonsai culture.

Easy to grow and adaptable to indoor and outdoor conditions, this compact Schefflera is an excellent choice for adding colourful foliage to living rooms, balconies, shaded patios, and other well-lit spaces. Its evergreen nature provides year-round ornamental interest.

Environment

Sunlight: Grow in bright, indirect light or a well-lit location. The plant can tolerate some direct sunlight, but harsh afternoon sun may scorch the variegated foliage. A location with filtered or gentle morning light is ideal.

Watering: Water when the top layer of the potting mix begins to dry. Schefflera tolerates slightly drier conditions but should not be kept constantly soggy. Ensure excess water drains freely from the pot.

Soil: Prefers humus-rich, sandy or loamy soil with good aeration and drainage. A well-drained growing medium helps maintain healthy roots and prevents water from remaining around them.

Fertilizer: Feed moderately during the active growing period to support healthy foliage and growth. Avoid excessive feeding during winter.

Landscape Uses

Ideal for indoor spaces, balconies, living rooms, shaded patios, and as a compact ornamental foliage plant. Its dwarf habit also makes it suitable for bonsai cultivation.

Foliage plants in general need access to bright indirect sunlight. Avoid keeping them in direct sunlight as it can cause leaves to burn due to extreme sunlight in the afternoon.

Make sure watering is done once the soil goes dry. Although the soil can remain moist, but it should not turn soggy/wet. Having drainage hole in the pots goes a long way in ensuring there is no water stagnating on top of the soil. You can spray the plant occasionally.

Fertilise the plant once a month in summers however Don't feed any fertiliser in winters. Giving fertiliser to the plant ensures nutrients going in which keeps it healthy. Keep an eye on the leaves of the plant to know any symptoms for watering or sunlight.
