Description

Setiechinopsis Mirabilis or also called 'The Flower of Prayer' is usually a very small cactus and among the easiest species to grow. The plants most notable features are the tall erected stem that is mostly green covered with short dark spines. This cactus is cultivated for its flowers and is among the easiest species to grow, flower and propagate. Stems are Dark brown, cylindrical and can grow taller than 15 cm, 2.5 cm in diameter.

Mirabilis  blooms at night with its huge white flowers which are strongly scented. The blooms open at sun set and last only a few hours. The plants may begin to flower in their second year.

It is a short-lived cactus & can be easily grown from seed or propagated by grafting, offsets.

Environment

Echinopsis Mirabilis ‘Flower Of Prayer’ succulents need strong light. When planting this succulent type in a garden, make sure it gets sunlight. Full to partial sun is the best for its growth. It is better to grow outdoor rather than indoor. Setiechinopsis Mirabilis prefers a warm climate.  In a cold region, it is better to plant Flower of Prayer in an indoor environment. As long as it gets enough sunlight, the plant will grow happily.

Like many cacti, they prefer a drying period between waterings, even to the point where they slightly wilt. When you water, however, you should water deeply.

Landscape Uses

Best suited for rocky desert landscape

The easiest to keep alive - Cactus thrive on neglect! Coming from desert climates cactus love sun! However beware of the Indian afternoon sun! Keeping them in extreme heat, especially behind a glass which magnifies the heat can cause the cactus to burn. If you notice the cactus turning brown or yellow on the side facing the sun, try giving it a cooler place to thrive in!

For watering cacti, the golden rule is to make sure the soil is completely dry before watering! This will stop the roots from rotting. It is advised to always use a pot with a drainage hole so that excess water can get drained out. If kept in a sunny area, you will need to water it once every week. If it is in a semi shaded or filtered light area, you might need to water it once in 2 weeks.

Cacti like soil that is well aerated and fast draining. You can fertilise the cactus in the summer months when it is in its growing season. During the winters it is best to cut back on any fertiliser and let the plant rest.
