Yellow Flowering African Tulip Tree
Spathodea campanulata 'Aurea' belongs to the Bignoniaceae family and is native to tropical Africa. This rare yellow-flowering form of the African Tulip Tree is prized for its spectacular golden-yellow blooms and lush evergreen foliage.
A fast-growing ornamental tree, it develops a strong upright trunk and a broad spreading canopy of glossy, deep green pinnate leaves. Under ideal conditions, it can reach heights of up to 20–25 m, although garden-grown specimens are usually smaller.
Flower Colour & Blooming
Large golden-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers with orange streaks appear in clusters near the ends of branches. In most parts of India, flowering is heaviest from January to April, with occasional blooms appearing at other times of the year. The striking flowers contrast beautifully against the rich green foliage and attract birds and pollinators.
Growing Conditions
This tree thrives in full sun and performs best in fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates short periods of drought but grows more vigorously with regular watering and adequate moisture.
Provide ample growing space, as mature trees develop a broad canopy. Periodic pruning is recommended to maintain structure and remove weak or damaged branches, especially in areas prone to strong winds.
Landscape Uses
An excellent choice for avenues, large gardens, parks, and landscape planting. Its bold foliage, attractive canopy, and spectacular golden-yellow blooms make it a striking specimen tree for providing seasonal colour and shade.
