Description
The Cardon Grande cactus starts off as a fat columnar cactus. Younger species are smaller but after many years, this species will grow bigger and taller, and produce its characteristic side arms. Not only is this a beautiful plant in its own right, it is extremely fast growing.
A typical healthy Trichocereus terscheckii specimen has 8 to 15 ribs. These ribs also contain small, regularly-spaced bumps on the surface called areoles. These areoles are approximately 2 centimeters in diameter and are 3 to 4 centimeters apart from each other. Each areole contains a set of 10 to 16 yellow spines which are 10 centimeters long.
Cardon Grande also produces large white flowers. These flowers can reach lengths of 15 to 22 centimeters, and widths of 14 centimeters. Each petal can be as long as 8 centimeters. The flowers have tubes with brown, woolly hair.
