Description
Wrightia antidysenterica is a small and compact semi-deciduous shrub, reaching 1.2-2m in height, with a spread of about 1.5m. It has green leaves, ovate to elliptic in shape, opposite arrangement, measuring about 2.5 - 6 cm long and 1.5 - 2.5 cm wide. It produces extremely fragrant tubular pure white 1" flowers resemble little stars, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds, non-stop throughout the year.
It is a valuable medicinal plant in India. The bark possesses anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.The juice extracted from the bark is administered for mouth sores. The leaves are used in treating several skin disorders, psoriasis, nonspecific dermatitis etc
Environment
Wrightia antidysenterica is quite a low maintenance plant.Prefers bright light or full sun; Can tolerate partial shade but will result in less flowers. It needs a well-drained loamy soil.Regular watering and occasional fertilizing, it will reward with profuse blooming and luscious green foliage.
Requires minimal pruning and it is least bothered by pests and diseases!
Landscape Use
It is a perfect specimen for limited space garden or patio. Hardy plant suited to rockeries, borders and pots.
