Description

Aglaonema Moonlight Bay Plant is evergreen perennial herbs with stems growing erect or decumbent and creeping. Stems that grow along the ground may root at the nodes. There is generally a crown of wide leaf blades which in wild species are often variegated with silver and green coloration. They are slow growing and will only need repotting every other year. Aglaonema are generally low-growing plants that will only very gradually reveal their trunks.

Moonlight Bay Aglaonema is a mutation discovered within a population of Silver Bay Aglaonema plants. Mature Aglaonema Moonlight Bay leaves are lance shaped and reach 5 to 6 inches wide and 10 to -12 inches in length. Leaves exhibit an uneven and sporadic central gray-green area that extends from each side of the midrib towards the margin. In some spots, this gray area is very narrow while in other is covers half the leaf surface from midrib to margin. Leaf margins are dark green and connect with the lighter gray colored central area along irregular borders. The undersides of the leaves are lighter green. Leaf margins are smooth and leaf tissue on either side of the midrib tends to be of slightly unequal widths. This results in curving or waviness of the leaf towards the narrower side. The leaf petiole is a light yellow green in color. The stem color ranges from areas that are a darker yellow green to lighter areas in the same color range. The stem and petiole colors are not normally visible due to the thick canopy of foliage.

Environment

The darker green varieties can grow in near shade, while the variegated varieties require brighter light. Do not expose to direct sun. This plant will do quite well with just artificial lighting. Water thoroughly in the summer, and mist often to raise humidity. During the winter, reduce watering but do not let the plant dry completely. Seek to raise humidity in general.

Care Tips

Aglaonemas do best in warm, humid and bright conditions. The darker green varieties of aglaonema can grow in near shade, while the variegated varieties require brighter light. Do not expose any aglaonema to direct sunlight as it will burn the leaves.

Water thoroughly in the summer and mist the plant often to raise the humidity. During the winter, reduce watering but do not let the plant dry out completely.

Aglaonemas can be potted in well drained soil and should be fertilised twice a month during the growing season.
