Kong Mix Empire – Large-leaf coleus foliage for summer patios & containers

Family

Lamiaceae

Coleus 'Kong Mix Empire' is a sought-after foliage plant known for its vibrant, large leaves and eye-catching variegation. Developed as part of the Kong series, this particular variety boasts impressive shade tolerance and is bred for its striking visual appeal.

With stunning foliage combination of lime green, burgundy, and red/pink., this multi-patterned plant reaches a height of 45-60 cm (18-24 inches) and spreads 30-45 cm (12-18 inches). Its small, lavender flowers are typically pruned to encourage foliage growth.

Environment

Coleus 'Kong Mix Empire', requires partial shade to filtered sunlight (ideal to have morning sun and afternoon shade). It thrives in moist, well-drained, and fertile soil and benefits from regular watering to maintain evenly moist soil (without being soggy). To encourage active growth, apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks. This type of flower can be grown year-round in frost-free, mild climates such as Southern India.

Landscape

Great for borders, containers, hanging baskets, and shaded beds.

Make sure your seedling tray or pot (whichever you choose) has a drainage hole in it. If you choose a pot, a 5€ pot should be fine. You can either use well drained soil or make a combination of 1 part each of cocopeat, vermiculite and perlite.

While sowing seeds make sure the soil is damp and not wet. Water the seeds as the soil starts to dry. It should always be moist, but never wet or muddy. Do not water the seeds if the soil is already moist to the touch, as overwatering your plant can be just as harmful as underwatering.

Keep the seedling tray in bright filtered light to begin with. Slowly introduce the plant to morning sun and bring it back in before the afternoon sun sets in. In a weeks time you can put it in direct sunlight.
