Description

Calandiva Kalanchoe are double-flowering varieties with a good branching habit and heads of uniform rose-like flowers in a broad range of strong colours which can last up to six weeks.

Queen Lindsay is a beautiful annual selection that has dark green leaves that really set off the golden-yellow double flowers. It grows 12 inches tall and wide.

Environment

Kalanchoes are fairly low-maintenance plants which need plenty of bright light to avoid the plant becoming leggy; windowsills can be ideal. They also prefer well draining soils and potting mixes. Be careful not to over-water and allow the plant to dry out between waterings to avoid rot. Be sure not to leave them sitting in water. After flowering cut off spent blooms to promote fresh new growth & will keep the plant looking neat.

Landscape Use

These make magnificent house plants and they are ideal in containers, baskets, along borders and edges and will brighten up any table.

Most succulents need to be watered twice a week during summers and only once in monsoon & winters. Varieties like Haworthias, Crassulas and Gasterias are well suited for low-light indoors and window-sills. If the leaves get too bulky, it is a sign of overwatering & if the leaves look shrivelled it is a sign of less watering.

As a general rule of thumb, all the ones with colourful leaves like Echeverias, Sedeveria and Graptopetalum like bright sunlight and semi shade in extreme summers. They cannot be kept indoors or in full shade. All succulents love morning sun.

You can fertilise your succulent once a month.

Watering tips : Make sure NOT to water on the plant itself. Water directly in the soil. You can use a cup or a glass to make sure the water does not spray on leaves. When watering, make sure water comes out of the drainage hole.
