Product Description

Mammillaria Bocasana - Powder Puff Cactus

Powder Puff Cactus

Mammillaria bocasana is a delightful cactus belonging to the Cactaceae family and native to Central Mexico. This attractive species is renowned for its dense covering of silky white hairs that give the plant a soft, powder-puff appearance. Hidden beneath the white hairs are distinctive yellow to reddish hooked spines that add texture and character to its compact globular stems.

Over time, the plant develops offsets and forms attractive clusters, making it a standout addition to any cactus collection. During the blooming season, it produces delicate funnel-shaped flowers in shades of creamy white to soft pink, followed by ornamental rosy-pink to red fruits that provide additional visual interest.

Growing Conditions

Mammillaria bocasana thrives in bright light and benefits from a few hours of direct sunlight daily. Plant it in a well-draining cactus mix and water regularly during the active growing season, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter. It performs well in warm conditions and should be protected from frost and prolonged moisture.

Ideal for cactus collections, succulent arrangements, rock gardens, desert-themed landscapes, patio containers, windowsills, balcony gardens, and botanical displays where its unique texture and clustering habit can be appreciated.

Special Features

Popularly known as the Powder Puff Cactus, Mammillaria bocasana is prized for its soft white hairy appearance, attractive clustering growth, charming pinkish blooms, and colourful fruits. Its compact size, easy-care nature, and distinctive texture make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced cactus enthusiasts.

The easiest to keep alive - Cactus thrive on neglect! Coming from desert climates cactus love sun! However beware of the Indian afternoon sun! Keeping them in extreme heat, especially behind a glass which magnifies the heat can cause the cactus to burn. If you notice the cactus turning brown or yellow on the side facing the sun, try giving it a cooler place to thrive in!

For watering cacti, the golden rule is to make sure the soil is completely dry before watering! This will stop the roots from rotting. It is advised to always use a pot with a drainage hole so that excess water can get drained out. If kept in a sunny area, you will need to water it once every week. If it is in a semi shaded or filtered light area, you might need to water it once in 2 weeks.

Cacti like soil that is well aerated and fast draining. You can fertilise the cactus in the summer months when it is in its growing season. During the winters it is best to cut back on any fertiliser and let the plant rest.
