Air purifier plant

Do we really need air purifying plants at our home? But our home is so clean and we don't open windows, how is our air not clean? These are the questions which always arise when we think about air purifying our homes! Let us help you in deciding that!

Indoor air is some of the worst air we breathe on a daily basis because it is inside that everything builds up from the off-gassing of chemicals in many of our products. We are exposed to a range of indoor air contaminants daily, including, smoke, toxins, chemicals off-gassing, pesticides, detergent fumes, mold, small fibres, bacteria etc. While cleaning takes care of the big physical residue, it cannot take care of many of the air contaminants. In a NASA study it was found that "houseplants can purify and re-vitalize air in our homes and offices, protecting us from the negative effects of such common toxins as ammonia, formaldehyde, and benzene."

Indoor plants remove pollutants from the air by absorbing these gases through their leaves and roots. The microorganisms that live in the soil of potted plants also play an instrumental role in neutralizing VOCs and other pollutants. These VOCs and other indoor air pollutants (such as ozone) have been linked to numerous acute conditions, including asthma and nausea, as well as chronic diseases such as cancer and respiratory illnesses. Air Purifying Plants are notoriously adept at absorbing gases through pores on the surface of their leaves. It's this skill that facilitates photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy and carbon dioxide into chemical energy to fuel growth.

House plants are not only an attractive addition to any home but they also moonlight as efficient air purifiers. All you need to add is water! Plants convert carbon dioxide into oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. Root-associated microbes convert toxins in the air into nutrients the plants eat and thrive on. House plants become more effective over time while air cleaners become less effective over time. House plants are also less expensive and naturally more attractive.

A lot of urban people have this notion about how plants can only look good in balconies or gardens. People are also often scared about taking up a responsibility of watering the plant and look after it. But we are here to tell you, both these perceptions are as false as they can be! Take for example, the Sansevieria plants. They are great low-maintenance house plant as they only need to be watered once a week and are available at home and garden stores. They are one of the most powerful air cleaners around, some experts even labelling it as "industry strength air cleaners".

Theory is good, and people forget about it. So let us leave you with some ideas of how you can decorate your home with these wonderful plants.
