Vastu Shastra for Gardens: Harmonizing Nature and Space
Vastu Shastra is an ancient environmental science that studies the influence of natural forces—magnetic poles, sun rays, and land composition—on living beings. According to the traditional system of Vastu for gardens, it is essential for the five basic elements to remain in harmony to ensure seeds germinate, develop, and grow healthily. Any imbalance in soil (earth), sun (fire), wind (air), water, or space can slow down growth and may even cause irreversible damage.
As a general rule, a garden should be located on the North or West side within the compound boundaries.
Five Elements and Their Garden Associations
| Element | Associated Area | Effect |
| Earth | Southwest | Provides grounding and sustenance |
| Water | Northeast | Helps flora flourish |
| Fire | Southeast | Keeps plants free of diseases |
| Air | Northwest | Promotes cross-pollination |
| Space | Central area | Encourages positive energy flow nourishing other elements |
Positive energies from the North and solar energies from the East encourage harmony and stability.
